Have you ever passed up the conveniently located gas station because you know you can save a nickel per gallon if you drive a few extra blocks?  I can be a penny pincher at times, and my family makes fun of me for the risks I take (and ultimately the pure joy I feel) in finding the lowest price of gasoline in town.  When it comes to our earthly lives – products, food, services, travel – it’s very natural for all of us to consider the costs and compare prices.  Who doesn’t like to save the most money possible?

If we are willing to put so much attention on saving a few nickels, I wonder if our everyday lives would be impacted if we truly considered the cost that Jesus paid to rescue us from sin at the cross and to defeat death at the empty tomb.  That’s why I’m please to share that my personal favorite song for Easter 2021 is “Remember What It Cost” by JUDAH (ft. Aodhan King).  This song is found on the February 2021 EP “7.”

As you watch the music and read the lyrics below, I hope you’ll be reminded that the freedom we have in Christ was offered to us with no strings attached – easy for us, but costly for Him.  And don’t be surprised if you get goosebumps when the bridge arrives: “Right when the Devil thought he’d won / All my shackles came undone / ‘Cause You’d risen from the grave – now I am free forever!

LYRICS:

“REMEMBER WHAT IT COST”

BY JUDAH (FT. AODHAN KING)

God, Your heart from the beginning
Every intention so easy to see
There You are in the garden
I am hiding and You’re chasing after me
And Your thoughts never changing
Always breaking all the shame that covers me
You gave Your son to die undeserving
To carry my burden and erase the veil between

[Pre-Chorus: JUDAH.] And what can express what’s running through Your head?
As You watched Him on the tree on that hill
I’ll never forget all that You did
‘Cause You knew with His last breath
All of my sin would go with it

And though You made it easy for me
How heavy was the cross?
Father, this gift You’ve given
I’ll remember what it cost

Jesus Christ, from the beginning
Every intention so easy to see
There You are in the garden
You were crying not my will but Yours through Me
For You knew You’d be returning
And sending Your Spirit out for all who believe
So here I am so undeserving
But You made me worthy to draw near to His feet

I can’t comprehend the nails through Your flesh
And get to experience the freedom it gives
I’ll never forget the stripes on Your skin
And the healing I’m receiving
All because of it

Though You made it easy for me
How heavy was the cross?
Jesus, this life You’ve given
I’ll remember what it cost

Right when the Devil thought he’d won
All of my shackles came undone
‘Cause You’d risen from the grave
Now I am free forever
Right when the Devil thought he’d won
All our veils were up and gone
Now right here in this moment
Heavens all around us
Right when the Devil thought he’d won
All my shame was come undone
‘Cause You’d risen from the grave
Now I am Yours forever
Right when the Devil thought he’d won
All our sins were up and gone
Jesus, You sealed and locked our fate
All in a moment
