Cover songs are their own brand of art.  There’s a lot of bad cover songs out there (e.g. visit almost any dive bar on a Friday night).  But when it’s done well, it can stop you in your tracks, maybe even let you hear a melody or lyric in a surprisingly new way.  We also believe that a Christian artist can take a song that wasn’t made by Christians (i.e. “Wildflowers” or “You’ve Got A Friend in Me”) and not only reimagine it stylistically, but also reimagine it in light of a Christian worldview.  So this “Special Menu” is about listening to these wonderful songs with new ears and an open heart…. and of course it’s just plain ol’ FUN!

CURATOR’S NOTES – Cover Songs (Jul/Aug 2019)

Over the last decade, we have produced several “all cover songs” editions of the old Under The Radar Radio Show.  They were always fun to put together and were generally more well-received that the typical show we did.  I thought this theme would be perfect for the summer months when you need or want something fun and interesting to listen to.  And like it states above, I hope that these new versions of songs will allow you to hear them in a fresh way.  I’m excited that in this 3-hour playlist, we can share some of our favorite artists like Jenny & Tyler, Jill Phillips, Ben Rector, Jars of Clay, Branches, Andrew Peterson, JJ Heller remake some classics from mainstream artists (Tom Petty, The Beatles, Elvis Presley, Kanye West, U2, Queen, Goo Goo Dolls) as well as from Christian artists (Michael W.
